09/06/2013 Terry McKenna Terrt McKenna Maidstone I remember it well: Hi Les. Just a quick correction; the guy with me in photo 1 is Ray Farmer my friend and NOT my brother!! As for Mr Capon's remarks!! Bald: How very dare you!! LOL Just have my parting a little wider these days!! Suzanne Cannell as Les remembers the pub was indeed the Ringlestone Arms: Quite appropriate because both of the ladies had a shotgun each and the 'parking' area nearby was full of lead shot!! Simply if they didn't like you it was a good idea to go: Sharpish!! Suzanne did you have a brother? I seem to remember my elder brother Michael having a friend called Cannell though I can't for the life of me remember his first name.. And I have a feeling I may have known him for footballing reasons!! On my last visit to Maidstone 27th May just gone I had the opportunity to look inside at my first school St. Francis in Week Street. Apart from the damp smell and obvious lack of care and attention it looked as it did when I last went there in 1960. There were the original wooden seats; the old desks some even with the old inkwells still in tact!! The playground at the back of the school (In fact 2 playing areas) were also the same except the dividing wall was no longer there nor were the 3 different height metal bars we used to swing on and over!. Even the 2 water drink dispensers were still in place. My first classroom (where the lovely Miss Lenton taught us) was also very visible. The top playing area used by the eldest children is used by the church for masses etc. but I believe pay for parking in the week days!! Inside the actual church was pretty much the same, although the main central alter had been moved to the front!! and there is now the sort of conservatory effect on the Week Street entrances. Only thing missing were some priests, such as Canon Simmons; father Moore and father Toughy. The London Tavern is sadly more the lively pub it was and is now a more sedate eating place. Couldn't even pop into Di'marcos for an ice cream!!
