Maidstone I remember it well: Hi Zoe:
It wasn't only the TV shows that I remember. In the 50's and 60's the radio was "King". Saturday Club and Easybeat on the Light programme introduced by Brian Matthews. Always an interview with the Beatles or The Rolling Stones and he's still on Radio (2) Sat. am!!
Sundays were the best days: Family favourites with Jean Metcalf and Cliff Michelmore and Bill Crozier from Cologne for the monthly BFPO (British Forces Posted Overseas) section.
That was 12-00 Noon until 2-00pm and that was followed by 2 half hour comedy shows such as: Meet The Huggetts: Hancock's Half Hour: Life with the Lyons: The Navy Lark: Archie Andrews: The Clitheroe Kid: AND the wonderful Goon Show to name just a few!!
3pm would be 2 hours of Movie Go Round with Peter Noble! 5-7pm would be: The Top 40!! and finally: Sing Something Simple with The Cliff Adams Singers; I really must get out more!! Zoe my younger brother Shaun went to The Convent Of The Sacred Heart school at the top of Boxley Road just before the steep downhill to Penenden Heath:
He went their until he was 7 (I think!) and then on to Northborough School. Why he didn't go to either St. Francis primary (as I did) or even Eastborough school I don't know. He was there around 1960 'til 1963ish.
Most of those afore mentioned comedy Radio shows are on at Mid-day Mon-Fri on 4 Live extra: 708 on Digital Yes I remember the Hughes boys and Jim Yarwood and I have been (and still are) friends for almost ALL our lives.
He keeps threatening to come to Bristol (where I live) but I think is only a fair weather biker these days!! Jim knows I'm ONLY joking: Honest Jim!! Great site this Zoe; started by Peter Capon and now being very ably run by Les. So keep on writing and looking in.
