Maidstone I remember it well: Maidstone- I remember it well and still do, as I’ve lived here for 28 years and have fond memories before that. My mother in Law moved to Upper Fant road- one on the big Victoria houses about 35 years ago. That was a good reason to come down as we had family close by to the Estate we live on. In the 60’s, we would come down with Parents to Maidstone- it was the premier town in Kent. We would park along the Medway opposite what its now Fremlins walk- Boats were in abundance working the course. In the mid-seventies, when I got married- we would come down for the restaurants- Many venues are still there but under different names. In the 80’s when we had our own family- we had a boat moored at Wateringbury and would come down through the locks to the Town Center and moor up. The Malta, but the lock that bridges tidal to non-tidal was the watering hole for many day-trippers like us with family on board,In the 2000’s, when my youngest son was in a more agreeable mood and age to come out with Dad, we would put our inflatable together in the Law Courts car park and go up to Teston- but not forgetting to go the other way- to shout echoes under the road-bridges! Maidstone once was a hive of industry, with its gas works, its factories and the Breweries. I still love it; I’d not want to move away. I love sites like yours for the history of the Kent area- keep it up!
