Maidstone I remember it well: Does anyone remember an alley down the side of Vivish and Baker in King Street which led to Gabriels Hill. Saturday mornings on the way to the cinema there was an old man sitting in the alley with a tin on his lap. He would put a ten shilling note into an envelope which was then jumbled about with dozens of similar envelopes into the tin. For sixpence a go you could try to find the note. Wonder how many kids lost their cinema entrance fee trying. Happy days

That alley is still there.Next to Stonebough shopping centre( I know it's now called the Mall but I always thought that was a gansters girlfriend) and the back entrance to what was the Bull pub. I don't remember the old man but I would come in from the other way
