Maidstone I remember it well: I used to work in Maidstone 1958-1959 at Chas Arkoll in Lower stone street. I worked in the office with Beatty, Ivy, Gwen and Pauline. My boss was Colin Ashby and the Newman brothers were the big bosses.
I left in 1959 when I moved to Plymouth with my family. I can remember getting off the train at Maidstone west, walking down to go over the Medway, on up to what I think was the high street, then right down Gabriels Hill. I can remember a ladies hairdresses near the top on the right, cant remember much more until Pias Coffee bar, used to go in their most lunch times and have a chat to Tony and his dad, the owner. I can remember the big building at the bottom on the left, perhaps it was a cinema. Chas Arkcoll was a little way along and I think there was a car place nearly opposite. look on google maps of
Maidstone but it has changed so much since 1959 that I cannot work out where anything is. Also used to go dancing in the Star Hotel and can remember an open air market near the bridge over the Medway. Be nice to hear from anyone who might know me. I never went to school on Maidstone as I lived in Halling
