Maidstone I remember it well: Like my sister (Rowena to me, Anne to everyone else now) I used to walk into town from the Grammar School so that we could go into Woolworths and buy broken toffee. We were not supposed to eat in the street when wearing school uniform (I'm quite a bit older than my sister) so the plan was to get the largest piece of toffee into the mouth and then be able to ask the conductor for a ticket without him knowing we were breaking the rules. Cannot remember the name of the jaz club, but it was in an old house so probably the one you are talking abouty, Les. I remember the legendary "Treacle Factory" near to the gas works. When Sainsbury's opened in Maidstone I was the 1st first clerk, following training at Sainsbury's in South London. Happy days!
