Maidstone I remember it well: I worked in the offices with Mr William Mr Ted and Mr Brian sounds antiquated now but that is what everybody had to call them I worked at Hart Street where the factory sold imported carpets matting and doormats which were made there All that was necessary for the hopping industry pockets bins and horse hair cloths for laying in the oast kiln to dry hops on etc I remember the screening (which was put round the hop gardens for protection) being dyed yellow and laid in a field by the river bank to dry They also made coal sacks which were covered in tar by hand a cold and messy business There is an error in your poster Clifford's in Bank St sold luggage and Leather goods Sanders the shop next door sold guns

When I worked there there was just Mr Ted and Mr Brian . when 'are you being served' came out it reminded me of working there. They only did winding the hop string when I was there early 70's no coal sacks. Or screening. I've been corrected on Sanders sold guns but I seem to remember delivering to Clifford shop and leather goods also horse bridles ect and hunting stuff including guns unless there was a joining door. I was also told that Sanders would give free cartridge's for gun ownersto shot the pigeons
