Maidstone I remember it well: Does anyone remember the Peter Preedy School of Dancing? It was in Market Buildings at the end of the 60s and was owned by Peter Preedy and his wife Anne Lingard. I seem to remember they had a baby girl who must now be approaching retirement! I used to thoroughly enjoy my lessons and when I heard on the radio the other day the tune "The Only Man on the Island" it made me chuckle as that was a tune we used to dance to. I haven`t been to Maidstone for years as I now live in Devon (not far from Honeysuckle Cottage!) Can anyone remember when the Medway flooded in about 1961? The Army was called in to ferry people over the old bridge. I was doing a secretarial course at Maidstone Technical College at the time and we thought it was great to be carried over the old bridge by the soldiers! Also I remember going to Highfield House on a Thursday and Saturday night. Everyone was in awe of Miss Edwards!! Also, Mrs Cross and The Deli which had a coffee bar upstairs and a licensed(?) bar in the basement. No fire exit though so the whole was closed down the day after President Kennedy was killed in November 1963.

Thank you Margaret yes I remember the flood but not that well.
do you remember the one in 1968 when the River Len to it's proper corse and flowed through the Granada .I was in a car being driven by a lady driver and it was really raining hard and we were coming down the loose road near sheals crescent and the road was like a river and the drain were that full that the water had pushed the manhole covers up and there were like little fountains along the road
