Maidstone I remember it well: Maidstone is my home town though I've not really lived there for many years. We lived in the barracks on Sandling Road and like many others I attended St. Pauls and Northborough schools. So many of the names mentioned on the site are very familiar. My family on my mum' s side were 'The Dann's of Kinsley Road and Springfield Avenue who were a family of printers and quite well known for their musical ability between the wars. My brother,Tim Collingwood, followed in their footsteps and was also quite well known from the times when he played with Redwing and The Virginians in the 70's. We both now live in different parts of Spain and one of our pastimes when we get together is to disagree about the names and locations of the various pubs ( Many long gone) dotted about the borough. I was interested to see mention of 'Elvis' of The London Tavern fame. Tim introduced me to him whilst I was on disembarkation leave from Malaya in the 60's. If my memory (Dimming fast these days) serves me correctly the story was that he had won a substantial fortune on the pools and it was that which turned him into the eccentric he became. I well remember him standing on one leg with a cigar in his mouth and a pint of Courage balanced on his bonce! I came across this site quite by accident and have to say that I am so pleased I did. Good luck to you all, Chris Collingwood.
