Terry McKenna
Maidstone I remember it well: Hi Guys: John Warner glad to see you spotted my "Deliberate" mistake Re. Tony Hicks of The Hollies!! Tommy Steele was one of 7 siblings and did have a brother called Colin. Tony Hicks was from Nelson in Lancashire: I had never heard of Nelson until a guy called John Ratcliffe came to work for Godfrey Holmes next door to our bakery in Hedley Street. His accent was so thick (I mean that in the nicest way) it was difficult to understand him at first. John took over as the manager after John Stopher left and I think got involved with Hotels! after he eventually left many years later. Hugh (rainman!!) Shannon I guessed you'd know about Tony Hicks!! Hope things are good for you. I wrote a book (All my own work!!) about my early life including being adopted by the McKenna family and the inevitable search for my Birth family and am doing a follow up of sorts. Did you know kids were STILL being sent to Australia without the parents knowledge AND permission as late as 1967. Australia did apologise for their part in the terrible "Trade" of child labour (for that is what it became): The British government of course still haven't apologised, although Gordon Brown during his short tenure as Prime Minister did make reference to these dreadful acts. At one stage I too was on a list to go to Australia (Canada was another place) although my Birth mother did give her permission! Did you know that most of the kids put into these Orphanages/homes were told their parents were dead and still our government over the years are in denial. My story is not for sale BUT I can send it via a PDF file on line if anyone is interested in reading it. I called it: Welcome To Your New Home. You can email me on terrymckenna178@btinternet.com and I'd be happy to send it. Here's to the next "Deliberate Mistake"....
