Maidstone I remember it well: Hello Again old Maidstonians.
The gentleman that used to sell papers, adjacent to the River Len next to Rootes was a Mr Heron (Herrin) he was a disabled gentleman. His son Frank attended St Pauls, North Borough and Vinters at the same time as me (ie 1951-1961) I dont believe his Dad was the same gentleman as the one at the West Station.
Pete Dean, you have forgotten Colin Wills an old Ringlestone lad. Last seen living in Brewer St.
Boy Lux. Are you related to Barry Lux or any of the Reynolds family?
The big sixties flood in Maidstone was 1961 and the most serious flood was in 1927. This is still recorded at Allington locks. The floods continued in various years until the sluice gates were constructed at Allington(1927) and the flood barrier was constructed at Leigh (Tonbridge)in the seventies.
Martin George, I remember your Parents Pie shop in the Broadway, and believe it or not, I remember the St Bernard dog that used to sit under the counter in the shop. Your parents presumably sold the shop to Stephens and Sturt. I worked for Pete Stephens as a Baker between 1962-64 (elsewhere on the site)
Meriel Cooper, I remember you well. You were in my class at North Borough and your Dad had a shop in Penenden Heath. I can still see you playing with Maureen Skyrme and Pamela Link.
I would be delighted to hear from anyone who has memories of St Pauls, north Borough or Vinters between the years 1951-1962.
Best wishes to all
Les
