Sports field overlooked by male employees from M&D bus service station. Long jump, high jump, rounders,relay running track, 100 yards! Netball/Tennis courts, playground with railings.
Junior school then the BOYS' school lol!
Messages to and fro! Huge skipping ropes in playground with nearly all taking part. Outside loos, bicycle shed, garden for 5th formers. School hall, school dinners, tin jugs of water, plastic cups,
Cuba crisis all scared! Nuclear leaflets, get behind a tree or lie in a dip!
Don't look at the flash, cover your eyes or look the other way! Assembly, giggles at "how green is the sod,"
Cookery classes with the larders full of fruit, nuts etc. always needing to be replenished!Lol!
White aprons and hats! Girls, Girls come along now you should be ready by now!
Mr Hayward, the caretaker! Swimming lessons with a "buttered/margarine" finger roll! 2d each I think!
Lyons Tea House and the Carlton Cafe. Waitresses wore black with white lace pinnys and hats.
Grill and Cheese, Paula's, Joyce's, Martin Fords, Whimpy, Bus Station x2 Fiesta-(Fleapit), Sketchleys, National Provincial Bank, Westminster, Barclays, Martin's. Electricity shop, Snobs, Paynes Stores,. Wig and
Gown, County Courts in Sessions House. Bradfords the fresh fish shop in Earl St. Pricerite, Maidstone
Market, Kent Show Ground in Mote Park, circuses, fairs, goldfish! Sledging, Hee on the lines, Trackers, with white chalk arrows,.

and dot leaves.
Long term memory is not too bad! Short term??? Lol! Sweet tobacco, sherbet dip, flying saucers, sweet cigarettes, aniseed balls, fruit salads, black jacks, - 10 Jacks! - gob stoppers, winter warmers, caramacs, nux bars, five boys, frys bars, sharps toffees, lemon sherbets, cough candies, all from the sweet shop two up from the Granada. And ice cream parlour next to the Primrose and Len Dairies.
A1 driving school, AA too. British School of Motoring, ansteys motors.
They were the days, but it takes time to appreciate them. I think we/ our generation- baby boomers plus a few years- grew up with the best times and sounds. Orange juice, malted cod liver oil, rocking horses at The Archbishop's Palace certainly helped don't you think? ? money for old newspapers, rags and empty glass bottles!
