Maidstone I remember it well: Hi. So many memories of the music scene in Maidstone. First Concert I saw was Michael Holiday at the Granada Cinema - where at various dates I also saw The Who, The Herd, The Move and various other bands/artists. During the 60's and 70's I say numerous bands at the Tech College, including Free, Focus, Curved Air, Wizard, ELO, Barclay James Harvest, Groundhogs, Thin Lizzy and many, many others. One of the best gigs was a festival in Oakwood Park with Fairport Convention and Matthew's Southern Comfort (which has been released on a DVD). I can also remember seeing Status Quo at the Star Hotel just after their first hit (Pictures of Matchstick Men), and I think they were supported by Local band Krishna Kudu. Talking of Krishna Kudu, their guitarist was a guy called Dave Perrins from Bearsted, and I'm still friends (via Facebook) with his brother, Graham who now lives in the States. I am now living in Stockport, and would love to share some of my memories with anyone who might be interested. My nickname back in my school days (Maidstone Grammar) was 'Plod' and I was also involved with a long-lived Folk Group called The Len Valley Folk. It would be good to hear from anyone, - Graham

Hello Graham Kingston. Amazing to hear about all the great concerts you attended all those years ago. I noticed you mentioned Dave Perrins. I played In Krishna Kudu together with him for some years and I also lived In Bearsted. We had some great times together and I still have contact with him on occasional text Messages. If you correspond with his brother, Graham Perrins, please send him my kind regards. I also know him very well. I once sold him my old Hofner 12 string western guitar, something which I regret doing today as it’s a lovely guitar. I’ve told Dave that if his brother ever wants to sell that guitar, I’m the first, very interested, buyer!!! Great to hear news from Maidstone. Best wishes Peter Dack

PS! Can you remember which year it was when Krishna Kudu warmed up for Status Quo? I can’t remember us doing it but I left the band in 1970 and went to Denmark. They carried on for some years with Mick Lee on guitar. Brian Shearer, (drums) joined Chicory Tip and had a big success with ‘Son of my father’ . Please let me know if you’ve got any other memories of the music scene in Maidstone at that time. Best wishes Peter Dack
