Maidstone I remember it well: I worked at Vivish and Baker for sixteen years 1948 to 1964 Mr L Coleman was Manager of the printing works where I was the white paper cutter running a 45inch Guilottine. The office was manned by Robert Baker and later he. Was joined by his step brother Wally Wood. When my wife and I wanted to get married we could find no commodation so I persuaded Mr. Baker to let me try and make a home in the old Photoggraphic floor on the top of the building. This floor had not been used since 1939 so yo can imagine the filthy state of it. It took me three months of hard work but I finally had a home.So Gwendoline and I were married on June 27 1953. We lived there until 1957 after which We moved to Bearsted . We remember well all the shops mentioned by other contributors. No body mentioned Whites ladies fashion and the Rose Cafe.plus Walter and Forknall Estate agents and Couchman also estate Agents.
And the fire at the Central Cinema.
Memo to Enid Sharp. I am glad your remember the Granada Restaurant because I married one of the waitresses Gwendoline.

I remember Tony, I was apprenticed as a Compositor in 1960. After finishing my apprenticeship I also worked at Kent County Supplies where I am sure there was a youngster named Jim Yarwood. I returned to V & B and was there when it was closing down owing to the development of Stoneborough. I then went to Young & Cooper for a while before going to the Duncan Press in Boughton Monchelsea where one of the owners was Brian Lavington who I had worked with at V & B.
