Maidstone I remember it well: , I remember buying my first pair of Levi's from a shop at the bottom of Bank Street for the princely sum of 54 shillings. I can't remember the name, but it sold work wear and army surplus, definitely not a trendy boutique, can anybody remember what it was called? Anyway when I got them home I was very pleased with myself, my dad asked what I bought and how much they cost. When I told him he just muttered "fifty four bob for working trousers, the worlds gone bloody mad! & Then proceeded to totter off to his shed shaking his head in disbelief. God knows what he'd say now when some jeans are £60 + a pair!
It may have only been fifty four shillings to you Andrew but it was two weeks wages for me. Peter

Yes Boo that is why I've put this under Upper Stone Street. The only gent's shop near Bank street was Levey's on the corner of Bank Street.
