Country: South Africa Maidstone I remember it well: I was at Sutton Valance Primary 1960-61 then Hill Place Prep on Queens Avenue 61-67 when I went to MGS. Heads at Hill Pace were Dr Swinburn, Col Beckwith and Lt Col Fisher, a truly great guy with his lovely wife Susan and daughter Nicola. My class teacher was Mrs Ryan and I recall Mr Delarue for music. MGS teachers were Mr McMillan, Burnett, Melly,Scott, Diamond, Stewart, Knight,Newman, Newcombe, Ryan, Miss Wise plus a host I can't remember today but no doubt will later. I enjoyed MGS, yes Knocker Knight was a tyrant but he was always fair from my experiences and I had quite a few punishments getting 3 detentions a term meant often seeing Mr Moody or Dr.Pettit for a swish or three! Maidstone was a fun place to grow up in late 60s early 70s,The Bridge Inn, Moat Park, the old swimming pool, bunking off to watch cricket, trams, the Cannon, the old Fire Station in the middle of town. Playing in the then quarries off Willington Street and Chapman Avenu e towards Ofham, now house galore. Yes Maidstone I loved you then and respect you now

I was at SV PS from 1958 to 1962 and then my family moved to Parkwood. I liked going to the school and recall a steep hill opposite the gate. A school boy fell down once and broke a leg! One teacher Miss Funnel had been there years Mr Saxby I think was another.
