Maidstone I remember it well: I wonder if any one could help me in tracing where my mother used to do apple wrapping in the early 1960s. I remember as a very small lad, boarding the M&D bus with her and travelling through Sutton Valence, past the Horseshoe pub on the left, and getting off at a crossroads. I have traced the field where we used to pick strawberries, but have no idea about the apple wrapping. I remember that the foreman was called "Bill" with a wonky eye and the farm building was within walking distance of the bus stop. A number of us youngsters who had to go with their mothers, used to play on surrounding ground but had to keep an eye open for the geese!!! Any help would be appreciated

Thank you Steve The Horseshoe pub is at Langley think the full name is the Crown and Horses but was called the horseshoes for a little while .but later than the 60's the next cross roads is by the Plough Pub Leeds to the left Boughtmont Chelsea/Chart Sutton to the right. After that there is the Warmlake crossroads we used to call that the Vangaurd.to the left Kingswood to the right Chart Sutton. all before Sutton Valance The next crossroads is at the top of Sutton Valance hill by Sutton Valance Church and the Bull pub. Then the Crossroads in Headcorn by the White horse pub to the left leads to Grafty Green/Lenham and to the right Fritterden

Maidstone I remember it well: Many thanks Les, The crossroads you mention as the vanguard, may well be the one I am talking about. Through age related mists of time, I have a vague memory of walking toward Kingswood but I am not 100% sure of that. Thanks once again

Maidstone I remember it well: hey there Les At the warmlake crossroads there are only two farmers who it could be. Edmeds or Suttons both are walking distance from a bus stop.

Maidstone I remember it well: Thanks to both Les and Dennis for information on a farm where there was a possibility of apple wrapping taking place. The next time I visit Maidstone from Wiltshire, I will certainly take time to try and retrace my steps and hopefully come upon the farm.
