Maidstone I remember it well: I too lived in the road at the top of the heath (1956 to 1976) and remember the Baldocks (see above) at the beginning of the avenue. Used to love hanging about on the heath, until well into the teens. Even in those days though as kids we often were approached by pervs. Some things don't change. I was staying at Penenden Heath at the time of the hurricane which destroyed all the old trees & wrecked the pavilion & putting green. I had to move my 6 week old twins out of the bedroom in fear of a tree coming through the roof, which one did just 2 houses away. The next morning it looked like a war had been fought on the Heath & I have a photo album full of pictures of uprooted trees & damaged buildings. All in all though I have very happy memories of the area & still visit Maidstone several times a year.
