Maidstone I remember it well:
Steve Handford - Yes that Dr Warren smoking away in his surgery on Sutton Rd was my father - Alan. His main surgery together with his partner Robert Stewart was at our home Milestone House, 538 Loose Rd just before Lancet Lane. Back in those days adverts would often be seen for certain cigarette brands "As recommended by Drs." !!
As I think I remember from a previous post (!) I recall as a boy being asked by my father to help him in his surgery and hold a small kidney bowl under a patient's ear while he carried out a syringing process! I can't imagine that these days!
As a young pupil at St. Margaret's School in Bower Mount Rd we would walk I "crocodile" style down to the Granada every lunchtime to enjoy our break before having to rest for a set time back at the school and then back to lessons.
I recall Helen Shapiro appearing at Granada and hoping that I might meet her by the stage door to invite her back to Loose for tea ! It didn't happen !
Many happy evenings spent at The Queen's Head by the Canon enjoying time with a group of friends including Richard - son of John and Hilda Harvey - the owners. Amazed to see this wonderful Tudor building is now a flipping Pizza Hut !! Opposite there was Maidstone's first (and for some time "only") Chinese Restaurant. I've renewed contact with Richard a year ago after 40+ years via Facebook. What an amazing world of communication we live in these days !
