Maidstone I remember it well: Mike Matthews responding to Terry Mckenna. Thanks for the info Terry. The bridge has stuck in my memory for similiar reasons as yours, the trek up the hill and the steam from the locos etc. The Tilling-Stevens factory where my dad worked was quite close by. Least, from memory I think it was, havent been back to Maidstone for some twenty years now and the memory cells havent been recharged. I was at St Francis both Week St & Vinters pk. Started in Miss Strouds class in 1952 (i think). I think the huts at Vinters became the senior school about the time I was old enough to start there, 1958 I think? Leaving in summer 1962, I`ve still got my leaving Missal with Harry O`s and the teachers signatures in. I`ve read Jim`s accounts of St Francis for some time, both on Peter`s site and FR but try as I might I cant recall the name or face. Afraid I cant recall yourself either. Several names I do remember, Peter Levy, Eric Twynam (not sure if spellings correct) Noel Sturgeon. The infamous Hughes brothers, Paul Martin, and others. I`ve posted several memories of St Francis and Maidstone under different subjects on this site as well as FR. Pleased to hear of any other recollections of the old place and the (not so old) names.

Peter Capon
Strange I thought you started in Miss Lenten's class like me. Surely you remember Christopher Morgan falling under the swing.
