Maidstone I remember it well: My late father George Lee (known as Polly Holdstock because the Sharps logo was a parrot at one time and his stepfathers name was Holdstock) worked for 50 years at Edward Sharp and Sons the sweet manufacturers on St Peter Street from 1919 to 1960. At one time there were four of the family working there - Dad, my mother Nora, my sister Pat and myself during holidays. My Dad also played bowls for the company at their sports ground on London road which boasted football pitches, cricket pitch, bowls greens and socila club all provided by the company. As a young boy I remember Dad bringing home bags of mishaped toffees and sweets and when I was older I loved the Extra Strong mints. At the end I my Dad's working life the company became part of Trebors then Cadburys.

I delivered conveyer belts to Sharps . I was glad to leave as a very strong smell of sugar.
