Maidstone I remember it well: Hi Margaret Vicars. Was just doing some reminiscing on this lovely site and saw your comments on page 30 {which went on for ages: The page 30 I mean}. Yes I do remember you. As Les stated I do have an older and a younger brother AND still have. Michael now known as Max used to be Top Mod in Maidstone and was very popular with the ladies. There is a photo of a group of Mods in the mid-late sixties later on this site on top of the old KM building that used to be opposite St. Francis. church and school. He is the tall guy in that photo and I managed to hook him up with David Lloyd who is the last on the right of the said photo. He has lived in Nova Scotia for over 40 years now and is a joint passport holder British/Canadian. I was with him and his lovely wife just a month or so ago. My late father was indeed Mayor of Maidstone and very proud to have been in 1983/4 as I was too. He sadly passed away whilst still deputy Mayor on his 69th birthday in 1985. David Wigg called in our shop almost every night on his way home to his flat in St. Lukes Road when he worked at the KM. Yes like myself and my great but sadly missed best friend Trevor Miles: and John Sargeant David did use the Grill & Cheese a lot. Flapjacks with Maple syrup and Espresso coffee were my 'weakness' there as indeed were most of the waitresses.
I live in Bristol {47years and counting!!} and still occasionally go back to Maidstone for a visit. My late Mom Kathleen worked at Springfield on the till in the then brand new building as it was then. Trevor John and myself used to play table tennis league matches at Springfield and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves there.
Note to J Y & J J now back in sunny Bristol
