Country: South Africa
Maidstone I remember it well: I started as an apprentice at Tovil mill in Jan 1954.After 10years I moved on and now have my own paper related business in South Africa.
Tovil mill perfected the production of corrugated fluting paper from waste paper and was very profitable. It enabled the Reed Group to expand to become an international giant. The treacle mine story was started (I believe)by the mill workers who when asked in the pub where they worked would say "the treacle mine" and they took great delight in spreading the myth.
