Maidstone I remember it well:
Hello to MARTYN BRISLAND, must be the Martyn I know. My father was friends with someone who worked at the Len. His name was Derek, and he drove a maroon cortina, old D registration, 1966. The ironwork fron the old brewery/len building has now been removed from the well in Brenchley gardens, not sure if it will come back or not. I remember as a child seeing the firemen cycling like mad to the fire station when it was under the old Corn Exchange in Market Buildings. They had other jobs as well, so when there was a call-out, the siren would sound, and they would race to the engine, cycle bells ringing.Everyone else stood aside for them. The old siren could be heard for miles around, and used to be on the roof of the Corn Exchange. It could be seen from the path outside the Corn Exchange, but has now gone. Does anyone know where it went, shame if it was scrapped!
