Maidstone I remember it well: Hi Les, did you work at Kimberley Clark back in 1967?, my Uncle Patrick worked in the print department and was killed in the accident with Bob Wall at the Kent Messenger Bridge at that time. Even now he is never far from my thoughts and l think it was something that changed my life. Good wishes to all here.....

Maidstone I remember it well: Hi all, the story of my Uncle Patrick Ruler and Bob Wall was that Pat borrowed Bob's car a Simca Aronde over the weekend as Bob was servicing Pat's car. He had agreed to help me paint a shop front in Sandgate near Folkestone over the weekend. After we finished we went for a beer in Folkestone and then he returned home, before he left l saw the tyres on the care were as bald as the proverbial and told him to be careful. Saying that it was only until the next morning and he would get his car back it was the last l saw of him alive. They went with another lad from Kimberley's for lunch in Maidstone and to go to the bank and as they were going back to work there was a cloudburst just before the Kent Messenger Bridge and Bob lost control and started aquaplaning and the car turned sideways and a motorbike in the other direction cut the car clean in half, the lad in the back seat did not have a scratch but both Pat and Bob died. I got a call from my Aunt as l got home from work and then l went to the West Kent to identify his body. Over 47 years later l still remember him laying there and not a day goes by when l do not think about him. Pat was in the paras, 2 para, fought in Cyprus, boxed and was a good looking lad and my Grandmother received a few letters from girlfriends that no one new about. There was a story that he had a girlfriend in Folkestone that had a son by him but l think my Aunt was the only one that new about it and l just remember her one day saying that she had seen the girl with the baby in a pram.
Most importantly Kimberley Clark showed up immediately and took care of everything for my Grandmother and this kindness has never been forgotten.
Bob and Pat did go on various trips and drove to Madrid in a Mini in 18 hours and in 1964 it was incredibly good time, l remember they came back with dozens of tins of squid in its ink!. They also used to go to Dobwalls for some reason and maybe there was the fairer sex involved in those trips!. There was talk of trying to do the Monte Carlo Rally also but l think that it was all Bob's idea.

Maidstone I remember it well: Yes Les the tyres were more than bald, l learnt from that and have had people tell me that l was an idiot for changing tyres that still had 5,000 miles on them, what we all should remember that there are only 4 bags of air filled rubber between us and the man upstairs(if you are a believer).
Ted, Thank you but l would never have remembered his name was Robert or even Bob, all l remember was that he was a nice lad, he did his work well and was a good natured lad too, a credit to his family no doubt which maybe these days is a little difficult to find. Good wishes to all...
