Maidstone I remember it well: I went to school at the old East Borough in Union Street from 1933 to 1942, The head Master was J. A. Mansfield, with teachers Miss MacDonald, Miss Limmer, and Mr French. I left school and worked at Rootes Ltd in Mill Street. Then worked at S.J. Wrights in Earl Street until called up for the Royal Air Force. During the war the gas works was bombed and a land mine fell in Mill Street. On demob I left Maidstone joining the Metropolitan Polce.
