Maidstone I remember it well:
Philip Woods?, did you drive sometimes for the evening Standard?,
I was with the Standard from about 1961 until 1970 and remember well people there in Rose Yard.
Frank Smith drove for us in the afternoon,
Ron Hodges did the stop press,
Dudley Richardson had the Standard but his brother had the Evening News then the Smiths took over.
Dick Richardson was also "Valdos" the magician and he used to do some tricks for us in the office while waiting for papers. Their Mother was a terrible woman and she used to come around really just to have a go at them,
Dudley mainly because he lived wit a lady Doris who was too a difficult woman.
Rodney Davis was there when l joined but he went to the House of Carpets just down the road,
Ken Hodges used to come in some Saturdays to help with the phones, and so did Robin Smith.
Brian ?, with glasses and drove for the milk also helped out,
Cyril Ruler too was another, Mac that lived off Tonbridge Road was also on the milk, moustached and liked a drink.
Looking back on those years they were happy times, sometimes hectic,
Many crashes with vans because we all drove like maniacs. Very strangely l remember the registration of the first new mini van l went to collect from London CMT804A it was the first of the new registrations, why it is still in my head l know not.
I doubt any or many will remember me because l lived in Chainhurst and went to Cornwallis so l was out of the main arena, if anyone wants to mail me it is chasruler1@gmail.com l have lived and worked in Spain and Portugal for over 25 years so UK is a foreign country to me. Good Luck.
