Two Barges the 'Good deign and 'Harriet' had moored together at Erith .
They were delivering Black Powder from Faversham.
They were doing a regular delivery to Halls 200 barrels of black Powder.
at 20 to 7 both the barges exploded setting off 2 of Halls storage Marazizes Low wood with 4 tons of Black powder and 40 tpns in the other one.
The explosion sent debris high in the air.
When this died down 9 people dead One dying.
The barges were moored at a jetty 200 feet from the Magazines and keepers cottages.
this was a isolated spot on Plumstead Marshes around 2 Miles from Erith and Belvedere.
